This diploma programme offers graduates the skills and knowledge to become a sports therapist, with a real opportunity to build their own client base and open a sports injuries clinic. The ITEC qualifications are well recognised and give access to insurance cover for professional indemnity. This course is suitable for those with no previous experience of sports therapy but seeking a career preventing and rehabilitating clients with sports injuries. It is also an ideal programme for those with a background in sport who want to enhance their knowledge and qualifications to branch into the area of sports therapy.

This programme gives the depth of knowledge needed whilst also focusing on the practical skills and techniques required to build a successful practice as a sports therapist. During year 2, students benefit with the addition of 2 modules outside of the ITEC syllabus. Designed in consultation with our specialised tutor team, the modules of Sports Rehabilitation and Fundamentals of Human Biomechanics have been adapted from year 2 of our sports therapy degree programme specifically for inclusion on this programme.

The world has become more aware of the need for exercise and fitness and the integral role this plays for a healthy lifestyle. This has led to increased engagement of the general population in sporting and fitness activities with a resulting increase in sports injuries occurring. It is now common for well qualified and skilled sports therapists to work alongside and within medical clinics, offering an alternative rehabilitative route to recovery. The general medical body now promote the application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, understanding that this can enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.

The key to success for any graduate is having the confidence to start treating clients and forms an essential element of this programme. Through the sports clinic run here in Portobello Institute, students gain practical experience in a safe and supervised environment. All of the Institute’s tutors are highly qualified practising sports therapists and are available to support students through-out their learning journey with Portobello Institute.
